The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) licenses individuals to blood test poultry for Pullorum-Typhoid (P-T) disease, caused by Salmonella Pullorum and Salmonella Gallinarum.
All Blood Tester Schools for 2025 have been completed. Dates for the 2026 sessions will be posted on this page when scheduled.
NPIP offers two types of in-person Blood Tester Schools, typically held each spring:
Commercial Blood Tester School – For employees of commercial poultry companies. Participants are trained to test commercial flocks as part of the NPIP certification process.
Private Blood Tester School – For individuals who plan to test birds at:
- County fairs
- Shows and exhibitions
- Flea markets or swap meets
- Private sales
Private testers are licensed to test their own birds and those owned by others. They are authorized to issue 90-day certificates for tested birds.
