The Bureau of Standards ensures fairness in Arkansas’s marketplace by promoting accuracy, consistency, and transparency in commercial transactions. Through the enforcement of state laws and regulations, the Bureau protects both buyers and sellers and helps build trust in everyday trade.
The Bureau’s mission is to provide a level playing field for businesses while protecting consumers from unfair practices. Its regulatory goals include:
- Promoting a fair and competitive marketplace
- Encouraging business development
- Strengthening consumer confidence
To meet these goals, the Bureau performs routine unannounced inspections, investigates complaints, and conducts other regulatory activities involving suppliers, retailers, and distributors across the state.
As the only weights and measures regulatory agency in Arkansas, the Bureau of Standards plays a vital role in safeguarding economic activity. It’s estimated that weights and measures regulations impact nearly 50 percent of the state’s gross domestic product, making the Bureau’s work essential to Arkansas’s economy.
