How to Become a Registered Service Agency

The registration application is on the Arkansas Bureau of Standards website. There is one for initial
registration and one for renewal. If you have previously registered with the agency, you should have an
assigned registration number. The registration number will always belong to the company. Complete
and submit the application online and remember to attach current certificates of calibration for your
test equipment, weights, test measures, provers, or scales.

Current certificates of calibration are certificates issued by a state metrology laboratory (preferred) or
other recognized laboratory from one of the recognized issuing bodies…ACLASS, IAS, L-A-B, NVLAP, Perry
Johnson, or A2LA. When scheduling calibrations with the Arkansas Bureau of Standards Laboratory, you
should make arrangements by contacting the laboratory at least two months prior to your company
expiration date.

Stainless steel test weight calibrations will be current for two years; other test weights will be current
for one year from the calibration date.

Five-gallon test measures have a one year calibration expiration. If the company is based in Arkansas,
the certificate of registration will expire in June annually. Meter service companies based outside of
Arkansas will expire one year from the calibration date of test measure.

Large volume provers, twenty-five gallons or larger will have current certificates of calibration for two
years from the calibration date.

Once the Arkansas Bureau of Standards receives the application, the applicant will be issued a
registration number. The office will contact the applicant to provide the number, and this number is
required to order seals and decals. These seals and decals must be compliant with the seal and decal
policy found on the Bureau of Standards website. The applicant will submit one of each for prior
approval by the Arkansas Bureau of Standards. Your seal must be embossed with your company’s
registration number.

Once the application has been approved, the applicant will be issued a certificate of registration by the
Director of the Arkansas Bureau of Standards. The application will be marked with an issue date and
date of expiration.

Once the applicant receives the certificate of calibration from the Director, the company is now
registered with the Arkansas Bureau of Standards and may begin service in Arkansas.

Service Agency Registration

There is no fee to become a registered service agency. However, all test equipment (including test measures and weights) must be tested and certified annually. Fees apply for annual testing/certification.

Scale Service Agency Training

The Arkansas Bureau of Standards requires that all scale service technicians wishing to be added to their company’s service agency registration must review the appropriate training module and complete the Service Technician Obligation Agreement. The completed Service Technician Obligation Agreement can be emailed to [email protected].
