How to Become a Registered Service Agency

The registration applications are available on the Arkansas Department of Agriculture website under the Bureau of Standards tab. Separate applications are provided for new registrations and annual renewals. Companies previously registered with the Bureau of Standards should already have an assigned registration number. This number is permanent and remains associated with the company.

Please complete and submit the appropriate application online and ensure that current certificates of calibration (issued within six months of the application date) for all test equipment are attached.

Calibration certificates must be issued by a NIST-recognized state metrology laboratory or a laboratory accredited by one of the following bodies: ACLASS, IAS, L-A-B, NVLAP, Perry Johnson, or A2LA.

Required calibration intervals:

• Stainless steel and cast-iron test weights: Annual
• Five-gallon test measures and J provers: Annual
• Provers (twenty-five gallons or larger): Every two years
• Weight Carts: Every two years

For new registrations, once the Bureau of Standards receives the completed application, a registration number will be issued. The applicant will be notified of this number, which is required when ordering wire seals and decals. All seals and decals must comply with the Bureau’s seal and decal policy, and applicants must submit one sample of each for prior approval. Seals must be embossed with the company’s registration number.

All technicians are required to attend an in-person or virtual training seminar offered by the Bureau.

After the application is approved, the Director of the Arkansas Bureau of Standards will issue a certificate of registration. Upon receiving the certificate, the company is officially registered with the Arkansas Bureau of Standards and may begin providing service.

Service Agency Registration

There is no fee to become a registered service agency. However, all test equipment (including test measures and weights) must be tested and certified annually. Fees apply for annual testing/certification.

Scale Service Agency Training

The Arkansas Bureau of Standards requires that all scale service technicians wishing to be added to their company’s service agency registration must review the appropriate training module and complete the Service Technician Obligation Agreement. The completed Service Technician Obligation Agreement can be emailed to [email protected].
