Commercial Applicator Technician License

A Commercial Applicator Technician (CAT) is an individual who applies restricted use pesticides under the direct supervision of a certified and licensed Individual Commercial Applicator.

Step 1 – Required Annual Training

To be eligible for a CAT License, you must complete annual training provided by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. Testing is NOT required to obtain a CAT License.

Additional Required Product-Specific Training

These trainings are required annually if you will apply any of the following herbicides:

  • Dicamba (non-crop use):Online training for applications on pasture, rangeland, or burndown
  • Enlist One / Enlist Duo: Online training for application on labeled crops.
  • New Dicamba Formulations (in-crop use): In-person company training required for products like Engenia, Fexapan, Tavium, and Xtendimax.
    • Applicators can attend any company’s session regardless of brand applied.

Step 2 – Apply for a License

After completing your required training:

  1. Complete the Commercial Applicator Technician Application (Form DP-28)
  2. Submit the form within 4 months of the training date
  3. Pay the required fee

A license will be emailed to you once processed.

Important Reminders

  • The license expires December 31st of each year.
  • Form DP-28 must be submitted within 4 months of training completion.
  • You must work for a licensed Firm Commercial Applicator and be supervised by a licensed Individual Commercial Applicator.
