Fire

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is responsible for protecting more than 15 million acres of non-federal forestland across the state. Every day, foresters and forest rangers in our seven districts are engaged in wildfire protection activities that include prevention, pre-suppression, detection, and suppression.

Fire plays a complex role in Arkansas’s forests. It can be both a destructive threat and a valuable tool for forest health when managed properly. Our Forestry Division works with landowners, fire departments, and other partners to reduce wildfire risk, support local fire response, and promote the safe, responsible use of prescribed fire.
