Project Swift Current

OPEN APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE FEMA SWIFT CURRENT FMA PROGRAM

In response to the May 30, 2024, flood-related presidentially declared disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has made up to $20 million available to reduce flood risk in NFIP-participating communities throughout Arkansas through its Swift Current Flood Mitigation Assistance (Swift Current) program.  Swift Current funded by FEMA and administered through a partnership with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Division. 

The Natural Resources Division is now accepting Pre-Applications for the Swift Current program. The Natural Resources Division strongly encourages towns, cities, and counties to prepare and submit Pre-Applications for the Swift Current program. A Pre-Application form can be found HERE. All Pre-Applications must be submitted to the Natural Resources Division on or before September 30, 2024, by 5:00 PM. Only complete Pre-Applications will be accepted and reviewed.

Eligible projects include property buyout, structure relocation, structure elevation, dry proofing of historical residential structures or non-residential structures, and non-structural retrofitting of existing buildings and facilities of properties insured through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

Communities are encouraged to apply on behalf of eligible property owners. The Natural Resources Division will begin accepting Pre-Applications from local communities June 10, 2024. The final date to submit a pre-application is September 30, 2024.

PLEASE NOTE:
ONLY TOWNS, CITIES, AND COUNTIES MAY SUBMIT A PRE-APPLICATION.
PROPERTY OWNERS MUST CONTACT THEIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND ASK TO BE INCLUDED IN THE SUBMITTAL.

The sooner the Pre-Application is submitted and approved, the more time there is to develop a full application. Do not wait until the deadline to submit the Pre-Application!
