
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s six law enforcement agents investigate agricultural crimes that affect any part of Arkansas’s diverse agricultural industry and help enforce the laws and rules promulgated by the boards and commissions within the Department. Investigators work with state and local law enforcement to investigate crimes. Common investigations include wildfire arson, timber theft, livestock theft, and agricultural and forestry equipment theft or vandalism.

Theft Prevention Tips
- Lock gates at all times.
- Brand cattle and horses, and ensure the brand is recorded with the county clerk.
- Mark saddles, tack, and equipment with your driver’s license number.
- Keep video records of horses and tack, along with complete, accurate descriptions. Maintain an organized proof-of-ownership file for quick access.
- Count cattle regularly.
- Vary feeding times to avoid predictable routines.
- Limit access to keys and combinations, and only share them when necessary.
- Park trailers and equipment out of view from the roadway whenever possible.
- Keep tack rooms and trailer saddle compartments locked.
- Avoid feeding livestock in pens.
- Participate in neighborhood Crime Watch programs.
- Do not build pens close to roadways.
- Never leave keys in tractors or other equipment.
