The Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requires state agencies, boards, and commissions to make certain information available to the public, including information related to agency operations, records maintained by the agency, and specific rules, procedures, and policies adopted by the agency.
FOIA allows Arkansas citizens to review and receive copies of public records unless the records are specifically exempt by law. In addition, the law requires that meetings of governing bodies be open to the public, with limited exceptions.
There are several exemptions to FOIA. If a requested record is exempt, the agency will provide an explanation for why the record cannot be released.
